Contacts and Useful Links for Car Insurance

According to an Insurance Premium Index in the UK, the cost of insuring young drivers aged between 17 - 21 years old has fallen by 5.6 per cent, which makes the average annual premium for motorists in this age range £2,294.

For a long time young drivers had been the biggest losers on the roads when it came to car
insurance premiums, forcing many of them off the roads or breaking the law and getting behind the wheel without the necessary cover in place.

One insurance expert said, “Premiums have been rising at a disproportionate rate, but it seems at last that insurers are starting to compete a bit more for their business with rates starting to come down.”  This could herald good news for young drivers in Europe if the countries insurance companies decide to follow suit.

Premiums are always higher for young or novice drivers, as they are classed as being a higher risk for becoming involved in road accidents. According to research in the UK by Brake, a safety charity, one in five new drivers will have a crash within the first six months of passing their test and newly qualified motorists are much more likely to be involved in a road collision during the first two years of getting their licence.

Young male drivers seem to pose the biggest risk on the roads with 74 per cent of deaths among young adults occurring in a traffic accident. The charity also revealed that more people aged between 16 - 19 years old were killed when passengers in a car than those who died as drivers.
A fall in premiums for young UK motorists may be good news for European drivers
